We want to tell our story so that other agency owners like us don’t make the same mistake that we almost made. We started our agency from scratch. We always treated our clients like members of our own family. We fought hard for them. And, they appreciated it. But, like most agency principals our age, it has become challenging to deal with today’s staffing shortages and tomorrow’s latest technology, not to mention the other day-to-day demands of operating an independent insurance agency. So, after 25 years of fighting the good fight, we decided that it was time to hang up the gloves. Literally within days of putting the word out about selling our agency, the buzzards began circling overhead. We were immediately approached by one of the aggressive ‘promise you the moon’ acquisition companies with an offer in hand. It looked pretty good and we did consider taking it. However, that very same day one of our carrier representatives told us about two of his other agents who were working with a company called Agency Administrators. He told us how happy they were and that we should talk to them. We did. After learning that they faced the same challenges that we did, we wanted to hear about how it worked because it really did sound too good to be true. After hearing it straight from the horse’s mouth, we didn’t think twice about joining Agency Administrators. We have now made far more money from our agency with Agency Administrators than having sold it. Oh, and best of all, we still own our agency. In fact, we just renewed our agreement with Agency Administrators for another term. Now, if you are like us and want to slow down or even sell your agency now or within the next few years, then do yourself a big favor and reach out to the folks at Agency Administrators. Listen to what they have to say (listening is always free). We now enjoy (and can afford) the “snowbird” life in Florida that we dreamed about for 25 years.
For the past six years, Agency Administrators has allowed me to operate my agency at the highest level of efficiency. By using their highly-trained customer care service and experienced sales teams, I now have the time to focus on being an agency owner again. I could not have gotten to this level on my own.
One of the smartest business decisions that we ever made was to join Agency Administrators. They offered us one very important thing…Freedom. Freedom to be who we are as independent insurance agents by allowing us to run our agency just like when we started. When we first opened our agency, we had all the time in the world to focus on sales and growth. But, like most agencies, that time decreased as the service needs of our clients increased. Agency Administrators has given us that time back. We now have the freedom to focus on what we do best…selling insurance. Their services have helped us gain a competitive advantage. They give us the “clout” of a large agency, while keeping that hometown feel. Our clients are extremely pleased with the changes that we’ve made to our service team. In short, Agency Administrators is a great organization that works with you every step of the way and allows you to flourish in today’s competitive insurance marketplace. We would do it again in a minute!
Our father, Peter, started the agency over 35 years ago. He did a great job building a community-based business, but he didn’t have a perpetuation plan. As his health started to decline, so did the agency. After he passed, we knew that having a perpetuation plan in place for the next generation was a priority. Thankfully, we were referred to Agency Administrators. We now look forward to the next 35 years and for the next generation to continue our family business.
I spent 30 years as a captive agent and lost many clients due to the limited insurance products of just one carrier. I always knew that being an independent agent was the way to go. Today, I have a 24/7/365 virtual office, an industry leading management system and access to many markets for all lines of business thanks to Agency Administrators. I now have additional business coming through the door. Without Agency Administrators, I would have never been able to make that life changing move on my own.
Before I go into too much detail regarding my early experience with Agency Administrators, let me give you a brief description of work ethic. In my 45 years in the insurance business, I have always been a hands on agent. Involved in every aspect of quoting, policy issuance and service. I will also acknowledge that I am a slow learner. With that being said, that pretty much sums up my experience with Agency Administrators. I didn’t initially forward everything to Agency Administrators and let them handle the work load. I was involved in the day to day operations of my agency as if nothing changed. Responding to inquiries, doing endorsements, certificates of insurance, quoting, payments, etc. It was as if I was still running my own agency. But that was my choice. Thank God I went on vacation. My first day of vacation was like all my other days off prior to teaming up with Agency Administrators. I took my laptop, was quoting, wrote new business, did an endorsement, processed payments. By 2:30 pm that afternoon, I said to myself, ‘I’m not doing this for the next two weeks.’ I put my trust in Agency Administrators and enjoyed the next 13 days, like none before. If I received an email, phone message or service request I forwarded them all to Agency Administrators, just as I was initially advised me to do. It’s a luxury to say to someone ‘I’ll let one of my staff assist you.’ I virtually did no insurance work during my vacation for the first time since I started my agency 34 years ago. I’m going to continue the practice of forwarding everything to Agency Administrators and continue to reap the benefits of my association with them. I’ll still be involved, but to a lesser extent in the day to day operations of my agency. It took a vacation for me to learn the true value of my association with Agency Administrators. What better vacation can you expect to have than to know that qualified persons are servicing your clients and writing new business too in your absence. It just doesn’t get any better than that.
